On Sunday this weekend just past there was a major fire at the Wakefield site of Morrisons supermarket bakery. There were around 50 firefighters called in at the Junction 41 industrial estate in West Yorkshire to tackle the blaze and although they stayed throughout the evening until the fire was stopped they weren’t the only heroes that day. James Edward, one of our very own drivers, happened to be on duty on site at the time of the incident and without question or hesitation helped Morrison’s staff move all the trailers and tractor units that were in the immediate vicinity to a place of safety. Not only did this obviously save hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of equipment but also gave the multitude of firefighters full access to the site without obstruction.
The fire itself sent huge clouds of black smoke billowing out and it could be seen for miles around over the busy M1 motorway as well as nearby Leeds. At the height of the fire it was said by the West Yorkshire Fire Service that 80% of the 86,000 sq ft building was on fire.
An investigation is underway to find out the cause of the massive fire however it is people like James and the West Yorkshire Fire Department that prevented it from being even worse. Kudos to you all!
